The main antagonist is a young sorcerer living in a massive house built in the swamp by the name of Baron Dunwlody. The author seemed unable to decide whether he wanted the story to be: You have performed a formidable task and our whole group will likely be grateful to you. So far, one of the best zombie books I have come across. It has plenty of suspense, action, gore, and mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, adventure, horror, and zombie gore in the story.

If you enjoyed the first one, or are an obsessive reader of all things zombie, Empire’s End is worth reading, but it’s not an essential entry in the genre.
Dunwoody builds his characters because at any moment ANY character can be caught and ravaged by the army of zombies, this does add to the panic and desperation the characters feel. However, for me, this is one of the charms of reading books, there is really only the limit of what the author’s mind can conjure up noovel to what can actually occur.

Empire: A Zombie Novel
Apr 17, Patrick D’Orazio rated it it was amazing. Perhaps there is something positive about reading a really bad book every once in a while if only to appreciate the rest more. However, I am left feeling that Empire, when all is said and done, is still an action horror with a fairly linear plot and felt like a bit of a prelude to the sequel rather than a solid entry on its own merit.
The Death plotline by itself was excellent.
The story takes place in Jefferson Harbor, Louisiana near one of the sources of supernatural undead energy and likely the origin point of the plague. The outbreak began in Books by David Dunwoody. The year is a nod to the classic Rush album perhaps? The letter, over one hundred years old and stashed in an empty control panel, explains how the swamp neighboring Jefferson Harbor is zombif source of dark energy capable of raising any dead with in its reach be they human or animal and that it has been doing this since the source was formed at the birth of time and space.
Finally, there were too many plot threads left hanging Nothing like Death and Zombies in the same novel! Also, I felt he was overly handicapped with his abilities, probably in an attempt to keep him empir being a superhero, but I always cheered when he showed up.
But would life still exist after years? So Death actually isn’t around in the last half of the book, just the nameless-dude-formerly-named-Death.

I gave this three stars because although I did enjoy the book and loved the concept of Death showing up in a zombie infested world I’m sure you could guess how that went.
